Holy Cow? No, It’s Holy Horse, and Much More at Christ The King’s First Annual Pet Blessing Gathering in Delafield
It was a warm and fuzzy scene at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Delafield on Saturday, August 21, for its first annual Pet Blessing event. Parishioners were invited to bring their pets for a blessing by Christ The King’s Pastor Gary A. Grindeland outdoors, as part of the 5 p.m. Saturday service.
There was concern by Rev. Grindeland and church officers if any pets would actually be brought in, but, much to his and everyone else’s amazement (and amusement, to some extent), in from the streets and parking lot, with their masters, came over 20 dogs, a cat, a rabbit, and, then the coup de grace in the form of two large horses. It made for quite a sight as Pastor Grindeland blessed each of the pets, while all of them remained calm, quiet, and exceptionally orderly. Each was rewarded after the blessing with a parting treat as the service ended.
The 5:00pm service is a regular part of the ministry offered at Christ the King and is open to anyone.
Christ the King Lutheran Church, 1600 N. Genesee Street, Delafield, is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year.
