Young Brookfield resident performs in First Stage Children's Theater’s production of ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY

April 1, 2010 | 0 comments

Young Brookfield resident Thomas Kindler will appear in First Stage Children's Theater’s musical production of ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY opening at the Todd Wehr Theater April 9.

ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY is a charming musical about one of the funniest fed-up kids you’ll ever meet. There are good days, there are bad days, and then there’s Alexander’s day. It starts with gum in the hair and its downhill from there. ALEXANDER is a musical production based upon the children’s book written by Judith Viorst. In 1998, Viorst joined forces with the Kennedy Center to turn the book into a musical production. Viorst, herself, wrote the music and lyrics.

Thomas is 12 years old and has been acting since he was 7 when he was in THE KING AND I, JR. at Wisconsin Hills Middle School in Brookfield. Thomas was inspired to audition for ALEXANDER because he likes to perform and he had friends who had been in previous shows. “They said it was a great experience and I was excited to take my performing to a new level,” says Thomas.

In all First Stage productions, the young performer roles are double-cast – the “Kangaroo Cast” and the “Koala Cast.” Thomas is a member of the “Kangaroo Cast,” where he is a playing the title role of Alexander.

Thomas loves working with First Stage because everyone is focused in rehearsals and is really committed to the success of the show. He says, “As Alexander, I am having a great time interacting with my ‘adopted’ family.”

“I am looking forward to moving into the Marcus Center and watching the show come together with sets, costumes and everything that makes up the production,” says Thomas.

Thomas believes that people should come see ALEXANDER because of the great lesson that the character Alexander can give you. “Alexander is stuck in a bad day—and he can’t see the end or how it could get better” says Thomas. “Kids experience this a lot and that’s what makes it a great story.”

ALEXANDER AND THE TERRIBLE, HORRIBLE, NO GOOD, VERY BAD DAY runs April 9 to May 9 at the Todd Wehr Theater in the Marcus Center for the Performing Arts, 929 N. Water Street in downtown Milwaukee. For tickets or more information, please visit www.FirstStage.org or call the Marcus Center box office at (414) 273-7206.
