Natural Food Columnist to Speak at Venice Club Breakfast

Jan. 4, 2010 | 0 comments

Lori Horbas, columnist for Outpost Natural Foods Exchange magazine, will address members of AAUW-West Suburban Milwaukee Branch, at a breakfast meeting Saturday, Jan. 9.

Making informed decisions about what healthful foods to choose is a challenge in 2010, with over 47,000 options in a typical grocery store. "The sheer abundance of choice, along with health claims and logos for various certifications, can make the decision of 'what to eat' anything but simple," Horbas says. Her topic, "Navigating the Edible Landscape," will be presented at the Venice Club following a breakfast and short business meeting.

Horbas's talk should empower women " to make food choices that not only have a direct impact on your health and that of your family but also those that impact the environment

and the local economy," according to program chair Kathleen O'Brien.

Author of "The Joy of Food," Horbas will have autographed copies of her book available for purchase. She currently lives with her family in Bay View.

The American Association of University Women is open to all women with a two- or four-year degree from a post-secondary university or technical college. Its purpose is to advance equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. The West-Suburban MIlwaukee Branch has numerous opportunities for women including service committees, mentoring, literature groups, and social groups.
