Cedarburg Plein Air Painting Competition

PLEIN AIR PAINTING COMPETITION, JUNE 17-27, 2010

in conjunction with

CEDARBURG’S STRAWBERRY FESTIVAL, June 26 & 27

 

Cedarburg Artists Guild’s Tenth Annual Plein Air Painting Competition will be held Thursday June 17 - Sunday, June 27 as part of Cedarburg’s Strawberry Festival. Hundreds of artists are expected to participate in this competition, painting outdoors in Cedarburg from June 17-24.

 

There will be several different events within the Plein Air Competition, including a Quick Paint. For this event, canvases will be time-stamped and painted within 2 1/2 hours on Saturday, June 19, 8:00 a.m.-3:30 p.m., followed by a Silent Auction and kick-off party from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Cultural Center. Prizes are $300 Best of Show, $200 First Place and $100 Second Place.

 

Tuesday, June 22 from 11:30-2:30 there will be a Plein Air Painting Picnic for artists and spectators on the Community Center lawn with a painting demo by nationally known Plein Air artist Ken de Waard and live music with cabaret vocalist Michelet Innocent.

 

Saturday, June 26 a new category called Paint the Festival during Strawberry Festival will have artists located throughout Cedarburg to capture the festival’s colorful fun and energy. First Prize will be $300 and Second Prize $200.

 

Three well-known art professionals, Paula Swaydon-Grebel, William DeLind and Ken Bronikowski will judge the competition. More than $7,000.00 in cash will be awarded to the winners, including $2,000 Best of Show and $500 for the “Best of City” painting sponsored by Festivals of Cedarburg. Sponsors of the Plein Air Painting Competition are North Shore Bank and Washington House Inn.

 

Detailed rules and pre-registration forms are available at www.cedarburgartistsguild.com or by calling 262-236-0188 or 262-377-8828. A $35.00 non-refundable pre-registration fee must accompany each completed form. After May 31 the fee will be $45.00.

 

Plan to enjoy Cedarburg’s Strawberry Festival, Saturday, June 26, 10-6 & Sunday, June 27, 8-5 with Strawberry Wine, Desserts & Delicacies, Food Courts, Live Bands, Contests, 5K Run/Walk, Children’s Activities, Arts on the Avenue, Hayrides and the Sunday Morning Strawberry Pancake Breakfast.
