Get Out and Play in the Snow

Feb. 10, 2010 | 0 comments

The Waukesha County Park System wants to remind you to get out and play in the new blanket of snow. All Waukesha County Park's cross-country ski trails will be packed and tracked once all roadways are cleared. Trail and sledding hill conditions are posted on our website every Tuesday and Friday by 5 p.m. However, due to this predicted storm, current conditions will be posted by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Cross-country ski trails are located within Menomonee Park, W220 N7884 Townline Road in Menomonee Falls; Minooka Park, 1927 Sunset Drive in Waukesha; and Nashotah Park, W330 N5113 County Highway C in Nashotah.

If cross-country skiing isn’t your thing, strap on a pair of lightweight snowshoes. Snowshoeing opportunities are available throughout the Waukesha County Park System. Fox River Park, W264 S4500 River Road in Waukesha; Muskego Park, S83 W20370 Janesville Road; and Retzer Nature Center, S14W28167 Madison Street in Waukesha, all have trails that are packed for winter hiking or snowshoeing. Snowshoe rentals are available at our Retzer Nature Center for $5.50 a half day and $9.00 for a full day. Contact Retzer at 262-896-8007 for more information.

Great sledding hills await at Menomonee Park, Minooka Park, Mukwonago Park (County Highway LO) in Mukwonago, and Nashotah Park.

For snowmobile trail conditions, call the Waukesha County Snowmobile Association's Hotline at (414) 299-0330. For information about snowmobile clubs in the Waukesha area, see the Waukesha County Snowmobile Association's website at www.waukeshasnow.org.

All Waukesha County Parks are open from sunrise to 10:00 pm and the daily park entrance fee or annual sticker is required on all vehicles. The weekday entrance fee is $3.00 and the weekend (Saturday and Sunday) fee is $5.00 per car, and will remain the same for 2010. Annual stickers for 2010 are currently on sale for $25.00 (Waukesha County Residents), senior residents for $12.50, and non-resident annual stickers are available for $36.00.
