Channel 10 Great TV Auction Runs April 24 - May 2

April 24, 2009

The Channel 10 Great TV Auction, which raises money for Milwaukee Public Television, airs April 24 – May 2 on Channel 10. During the Auction’s nine-day run, more than 18,000 items are featured and viewers get to set the price with their bids! The Auction is based in Brookfield and reaches viewers across Southeastern Wisconsin and Northern Illinois.

Anyone can bid on major items online by visiting http://www.greattvauction.com. This year, you can also watch the Auction live online by visit the Auction’s web site!

The Auction showcases thousands of items for bid including art, antiques, hotel stays, airline tickets, vacation packages, restaurant gift certificates, food and beverages such as Elegant Farmer Pie-in-a-Bag, Sprecher beer and soda and household items and services, including oil changes, tools, cookware and much more!

Each year, the Channel 10 Great TV Auction selects a group of featured artists to create original artwork that's available to the public for bid only during the Auction. This year's featured artists are: Andy Goralski of Oconomowoc; Bill Millonig of Campbellsport; Don Nedobeck of Milwaukee; Grace Natoli Sheldon of Mequon; and George Kovach of Abilene, Texas.

For the Channel 10 Auction, Goralski has created “Ryan Braun: Portrait of an All-Star.” The piece features three images of Ryan Braun, the Milwaukee Brewers’ left fielder who was voted into the 2008 All-Star Game and won the 2007 National League Rookie of the Year award.

Millonig created “Ghost of a Glacier,” an oil painting that captures a late October scene in the Kettle Moraine State Forest. As inspiration for the piece, Millonig hiked into the forest and perched in a tree to view a family of sandhill cranes as they were about to land in a marshy area along the eastern branch of the Milwaukee River.

Nedobeck created “Friends,” a piece that combines three media – pen & ink, water color and acrylic. The painting features a smiling brown-robed friar surrounded by animals. The peaceful gathering of man and animals is sheltered by a canopy of leaves provided by two strong trees that flank the painting. Perched in the middle of the canopy is a wise old owl.

Natoli Sheldon created “Frutta del Tripletto” in honor of her Italian heritage and triplet daughters. The decorative still life is shot in her Kitchen Art style and is a triptych featuring the bold, primary colors of strawberries, apricots and blueberries.

Kovach has painted his last Milwaukee fireworks piece, “Lakefront Celebration,” and it’s only available during the Channel 10 Great TV Auction.

The auction’s 2009 goal is to raise more than $1 million for Milwaukee Public Television. By reaching its goal, the auction will fund approximately 10 minutes of every hour of programming for shows such as “NOVA,” “Sesame Street” and “Great Performances.”
