Green Space in Waukesha County

April 12, 2009 | 0 comments

Spring is in the air, so get out and enjoy it! Waukesha County has a variety of parks and plenty of green space to suit every hobby. Here are some highlights:

Go Rustic!

The Waukesha County Park System has a variety of parks that suit camping and fishing located best at Mukwonago, Muskego, and Naga-Waukee Park. Come to the park during the day and stay the night at one of the reserved group campsites or pitch a tent at one of the many sites available in the family camping area. Bring a fishing pole for an ideal family-orientated fishing opportunity; fish to catch include: Northern, walleye, bass, bluegill, perch, and crappies. Minooka and Menomonee Park offers archery ranges with targets and raised platforms for target practice.

Go Explore!

The Formal Gardens at Frame Park is the perfect location to enjoy a spring day, the flowers will soon bloom. Saunter around the beautiful Riverwalk beginning at Frame Park in Historic Downtown Waukesha. Take time to see what is new in Historic Downtown Waukesha; a lot has changed in the past year! Over 22 new businesses have opened up since last August including 6 new restaurants and, of course, the luxurious Clarke Hotel. Hiking and biking are great ways to explore and these options abound at a variety of parks in the county, from the acclaimed mountain biking trails at the Kettle Moraine State Forest to the handicap accessible trail at Retzer Nature Center.

Go Relax!

Pewaukee Lake is noted as having the best Muskie fishing in Southeastern Wisconsin. Never fished before? Contact one of our area fishing guides and give it a try! Mike Koepp, specializing in Pewaukee Lake or Jim O’Brien, specializing in Waukesha County offering a wealth of knowledge on local lakes, Waukesha County is home to a variety of golf courses suiting amateurs and seasoned golfers alike, from the historic and centrally located Moor Downs Golf course to the 4- star rated Broadlands Golf Course. Moor Downs Golf course was added in 1915 to the existing Moor Downs Health Spa known for its ‘mud baths’- a spa treatment covering oneself in mud that is rich in nutrients. Between 1925 and 1947 over 130,000 people received the mud treatment. Moor Downs Golf Course remains a piece of this history!
