United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities

(April 9, 2014)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Lobby Organizer/Greeter - Summit
The lobby organizer role is for someone looking to have patient interaction and be mobile throughout the facility. The lobby organizer will straighten up all waiting areas, visit with the patients in those areas and assist in returning wheelchairs to their rightful place. Mon-Fri 8am-5pm.

Volunteer In-Office and More! - Waukesha
The Addiction Resource Council, Inc., a local non-profit organization and local affiliate of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence (NCADD) is currently seeking volunteers to assist with:
Office/Clerical, Social Media, Helpline, Special Events & Community Awareness and Recovery Support activities. No experience necessary-training provided.

Blue Jean Bingo Volunteers - Pewaukee
Blue Jean Bingo is a fun and entertaining event that benefits the National Alliance on Mental Illness of Waukesha County. This event consists of a licensed bingo event with cash prizes, all you can eat fish fry buffet, and large silent auction. NAMI Waukesha is in need of volunteers to assist with registration, helping spot people calling bingo during the event, as well as to assist with the silent auction check-out process. Volunteers are needed from 4:45 pm-9:30 pm

Bake Sale Helpers Needed - Waukesha
Each year on Good Friday, the Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha holds a bake sale at the downtown branch of Waukesha State Bank. The proceeds from the bake sale support LCGW's programs of matching volunteer tutors with adults and children who need to improve their basic skills including reading, writing, spelling, math and English as a second language. Tutors also help prepare students for the GED or citizenship tests. Volunteers are needed to help at the Literacy Council of Greater Waukesha Bake Sale on Friday April 18, 2014. The day will be divided into about 2 hour shifts between 8:30am and 5pm. One or two people will be assigned to each shift. More volunteers are needed for the first shift. Volunteers must be a minimum of 18 years old. Families are invited to help as long as there is parental supervision.

Mentor Needed at Area Schools - Waukesha
Big Brothers Big Sisters of Metro Milwaukee is seeking adult volunteers to mentor elementary-aged children in structured school settings in the City of Waukesha. Male and female mentors ages 18 and older are in need. Together, the volunteer mentor and the child concentrate on academic achievement, recreational activities and emotional development. “Bigs” and “Littles” are matched together based on similar interests and values. Each site’s staff coordinator provides adult oversight, planned activities, direct match support and outcome measurement. Enrollment is seasonal. We ask for a minimum two-year relationship and the availability to meet with the child on a weekly basis.
