United Way Connects the Community to Volunteer Opportunities
(November 27, 2013)—United Way in Waukesha County would like to invite volunteers to the following volunteer opportunities:

Handy Helpers - Waukesha
Are you looking to do a little manual work, burn a few calories and help others? The Waukesha County Museum has a little spiffing up to do and would appreciate 5-10 strong volunteers to help remove old non-useable items from rooms located in the museum. Old shelving units, old computer parts and even a room of carpet needs to be ripped up and thrown in the dumpster. Hours are flexible anytime during museum hours, Tuesday – Saturday, 10:00 AM – 4:30 PM. Requirements: must be able to lift and carry items of estimated 5-30lbs

Patient Visitor Volunteer - Brookfield
Patient visitor volunteers provide a caring presence and a listening ear to those facing life's last days and their families. Visitors spend time with patients in their homes (which may be a long term care facility or a private home) giving families respite or just sharing time and stories with them and listening. In addition to the satisfaction of knowing you've been a "day maker" for someone in need of kindness and support, serving as a hospice volunteer also helps gain pragmatic experience in providing active listening and compassionate care. Allay services the 9 county area of Southeastern Wisconsin, and strives to assign visitors as close to home as possible. No medical training or background is necessary to be an visiting volunteer. Allay provides a training program for all volunteers to ensure you have a meaningful experience.

Library Attendant - Summit
A library attendant will assist our librarian with checking in and out books, re-shelving books, preparing books for cataloging etc. This is a quiet but rewarding environment. Volunteers must be a minimum of 16 years old, complete application process which includes a TB skin test and background check. Volunteers also need to be able to stand, site and bend. One day per week is needed for 1-2 hours.

Intake Screener for Tax Preparation - Waukesha
As a volunteer tax preparer in La Casa de Esperanza’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program, you will help low income individuals and families receive all the tax credits for which they’re eligible. Many of these households desperately need their refunds to continue utilities, pay medical bills, and cover other critical basic needs. In 2012 La Casa’s VITA program was able to bring back over $2.8 million in tax refunds to the community. Join the VITA team to provide this much needed service to low income households. VITA volunteers provide free e-filing of Federal & State tax return preparation, using an online system called Taxwise. VITA volunteers become IRS-Certified! Each volunteer receives free tax training and are supported by VITA site staff at all times.
