In response to the biased letter written by Mayor Ponto.
Facts and the Real Solution: How to win the "good" fight
It would be fiscally responsible for the City to inform the public that we want to collect a broader tax base from the homes now, without having to pay over $1 million for a park down the road. Sileno/Siepman has the right to build the homes, and the zoning is appropriate for that. Let's collect those taxes ASAP.
Why not have the Siepman/Sileno group build the homes NOW, as opposed to 5-7 years from now?
The Brookfield News letter is clearly a biased opinion from Mayor Ponto.
This letter is a big mistake, and Ponto has erred in his judgement. Ponto is using a public forum to slander BRAD and their credibility. Now Ponto is liable.
Where was Ponto's opinion when TMJ4 asked him and the city for comment this summer?
He said "we have no comment".
But now he does in this letter?
Did his lawyer write it for him? Or the city attorney?
Did they advise Mayor Ponto that this letter was NOT a good idea on his part?
It is an abuse of his power as an elected official to "advise" people to not sign a petition, or interfere in the process.
It is the electorates RIGHT to start a petition, and the electorate has their own choice whether they sign it or not, and how they vote Yes or No on the ballot.
The Mayor is not elected to voice a biased opinion that represents "special interests" while at the same time ignoring any input from the residence that WILL BE EFFECTED by a 'fill' operation for 5- 7 years.
Ponto can write his letter on his own time and voice his personal opinion, but I hope he did not write/send this on City time or using their computers. Another mistake that is traceable, and is a complete abuse of the powers the electorate gives to Mayor Ponto.
I use the word 'fill' on purpose, because we all know that there will be 'clean fill' trucks that 'fill' in the pit. As opposed to the semantic equivalent 'dump trucks' that will 'dump' behind my house.
I am directly effected. I border the quarry. We don't want a 'fill' operation. It is already a de facto park.
We know the Truth, and we will use our Rights to win the good fight. I pray that the City will stop this madness, and just build the homes. We/they do not have to choose between a "fill" operation or park. Just put the homes in and be done with this.
A conservancy is better suited for Sileno's Pit. We dont want to pay for Ponto's Pit Park.
