The middle and senior level Templeton Middle School teams placed fourth in the Wisconsin Educational Media and Technology Association (WEMTA) Battle of the Books program.
Seventh grade students Matthew Gnanadass, Hayley Jasinski, Drew Tai and Kayleigh Winston placed fourth among 124 schools at the middle level; and eighth grade students Ciara Cronin, Ariana King, Erin Magoon and Chloe Simchick placed fourth in 90 participating senior level schools. Both teams qualified for the Honors Club by completing an online test in February.
Sixth grade students Abigail Dowse, Molly Hubred and Mabel Jankowski also competed.
The statewide WEMTA Battle of the Books program is designed to promote a love of reading among students. It encourages students to read a variety of books and remember information about the plots, characters, and settings of the books. Every question asked in a battle is answered by the title and author of the book. It is a fun, academic-based competition that has been very successful in school districts throughout the state in encouraging students to read.
