Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce sponsors Health Care Reform – How does it affect your business?

Feb. 12, 2013

Chamber helps smaller businesses learn about Affordable Care Act.

Carol White, IOM, President of the Greater Brookfield Chamber of Commerce (GBCC), announces that the GBCC is sponsoring a program on health care reform: Health Care Reform – How does it affect your business? The program, focused on smaller businesses, will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2013, 7:30-9:30 am. It is being sponsored by and held at Ottawa University, 245 S Executive Drive, Brookfield, Wis.

“As an organization that represents the interests of business, we feel that it is important to provide a program to our members to bring them up-to-speed on the implications of the Affordable Care Act,” said Carol White. “While this is still a developing piece of legislation, there will be dates for businesses to adhere to in the near future. We are providing this program to share what we know at this point, and we will continue to keep our members informed as other deadlines approach. The program is focused on smaller businesses.”

Presenters at this program are Bob Suycott, President, Tailor Made Benefit Solutions, speaking on the health care and benefits pieces of the program; and Liz Kaiser, Shareholder, Winter, Kloman, Moter & Repp, S.C., speaking on the tax implications of the program.

Bob Suycott continues, “The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA) is a very complex piece of legislation with many moving parts, many of which are not yet fully defined. The one thing we know is that everyone will be affected by this legislation in one form or another. The question is how? Being out of compliance can cost a smaller business in many ways. Our presentation will focus on how PPACA will affect small and medium-sized employers from both an employee benefits as well as a tax perspective. We’ll give attendees some history of the legislation, the current state of the program rollout, and what we know is coming up in the future. We’ll let you know what your responsibilities as an employer are, and how best to prepare for the future.”

Liz Kaiser concludes, “There are many uncertainties related to the Affordable Care Act, and many small businesses (those with less than 50 employees) believe they are not impacted by this law; but there are portions of the law that will impact all businesses – large or small. We hope to provide information to employers as to what may or may not impact them.”
