Not only did Uma Avinash’s talent and hard work reward her with a scholarship for her future studies, but her success has benefited her high school as well. As a recipient of the 2012 GE STAR Award, Avinash was able to nominate a high school teacher to receive a one-time $500 financial award for school purposes. Avinash named Hamilton High School mathematics teacher Steve Akin.
A 2012 Hamilton graduate, Avinash earned the GE STAR Scholarship last spring. She was chosen through a competitive selection process to defray expenses of higher education. The GE STAR Award, provided by the GE Foundation, is administered by the Institute of International Education (IIE), an independent international non–profit educational organization.
