“Opening Doors” Theme of Art Center Fundraiser

May 2, 2012

The Donna Lexa Community Art Center, along with Campbell and Associates, will be hosting the annual dinner and auction, Thursday, May 17, from 5:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Carroll University’s Stackner Ballroom, 100 East Avenue, Waukesha.

The theme, Opening Doors, refers to the challenges for adults with disabilities and the “keys” to overcoming them. The Donna Lexa Community Art Centers (DLCAC) strive to help over 500 students to express themselves by providing art classes at three locations -Milwaukee, Waukesha and West Bend.

With support from local businesses and residents during this fundraiser, students continue to develop their creativity, social skills and independence in a welcoming and supportive environment.

Jill VanderVeen, Chair of the DLCAC Board of Directors, says art plays an important part in all our lives, but especially in the lives of these students. “All of our students, regardless of their disability, recognize and appreciate color and texture, and everyday they discover more ways to use these in fun, creative ways.

Our wonderful art teachers and volunteers work hard to make the classes innovative and enjoyable for the students. Each student finds their own unique success while developing their social skills and independence.”

The evening will begin with a silent auction and cocktails followed by dinner and a keynote address by John McCarthy of McCarthy Grittinger Weil Financial Group whose daughter is a prolific student of the art center.

After dinner, the live auction provides more fun and entertainment. Thanks to the generosity of businesses and individuals, we have a variety of items to help us raise money for the coming year.

Tickets for the evening are $45.00 per person. The event is made possible thanks to the following sponsors: Platinum Level - Campbell and Associates; Gold Level - Goodwill Industries of Southwest Wisconsin; Silver Level -McCarthy, Grittinger, Weil, s.c.; Bronze Level - the Rehabilitation Hospital of Wisconsin, and Waukesha State Bank.

For those who would like to support the organization but cannot attend the event, please consider making a financial donation.
