CIVIL AIR PATROL TO HOLD ANNUAL CONFERENCE IN WAUKESHA

April 26, 2012

Waukesha, WI- Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the Wisconsin Wing Civil Air Patrol’s annual conference will be at the Marriott Milwaukee West, April 27-29 hosted by Timmerman Composite and 10th Senior Support Squadrons, both located at the Timmerman Airport in Milwaukee.

The Civil Air Patrol (CAP) is the official auxiliary of the U.S. Air Force and is a nonprofit organization with more than 61,000 members nationwide, operating a fleet of 550 aircraft. CAP, in its Air Force auxiliary role, performs 90 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and was credited with saving 54 lives in fiscal year 2011. Its volunteers also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. CAP received the World Peace Prize in 2011.

In what is thought to be a first for Wisconsin Wing, Major General Charles Carr, Jr., Civil Air Patrol’s national commander, is attending the three day event. Carr, a native of Ohio and former Great Lakes Region commander, is believed to be the first national commander to ever attend the festivities. Additional break out sessions with guests speakers are planned to help teach and encourage the all-volunteer membership. Saturday evening the Wing of Excellence Academy Awards Banquet will honor those Wisconsin Wing members who have been nominated for year-end awards for their hard work and dedication.
