Four Brookfield, One Elm Grove Project On Milwaukee/NARI Spring Showcase Tour Of Homes

April 18, 2011

Southeastern Wisconsin residents will have an opportunity to “Explore Remodeling’s Finest” at the 12th annual Milwaukee/NARI Spring Home Improvement Showcase...A Tour of Remodeled Homes, Sat., May 14 – Sun., May 15, 2011, from 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. daily, with five of the 19 projects in Brookfield and one in Elm Grove.

The Showcase will feature the following renovation projects:

Monica Baas Design Services, LLC: First and Second Floor Addition • 2480 Tru Lane • Brookfield

Directions: From Hwy. 45, North Avenue west to Tru Lane and north to home.

This ranch home was transformed, as a second floor addition featuring three bedrooms and two bathrooms was stage one of the remodeling process. The second stage was the addition of a first floor studio and garage space, and a complete renovation of the first floor living space, including the kitchen, dining area, living room, powder room, laundry, and mudroom.

S.J. Janis Company, Inc.: Kitchen, Bathrooms, and Family Room Remodel • 1245 Indianwood Drive • Brookfield

Directions: North Avenue to Pilgrim Road and south to Gebhardt Road. West to Indianhead Drive and south to home.

This 1970’s Brookfield home was outdated and lacked functionality in the kitchen and adjacent family room. The project goal was to produce a well-designed and fully-equipped space, built with quality materials in a contemporary, multifunctional style, with the space more conducive to cooking and entertaining. The dining room opening was enlarged and the view to the family room enhanced by using a Coffman wrought iron railing in a double basket design in prefinished black matte. The kitchen features maple cabinets in a Praline finish with Volga Blue granite countertops, a custom glass tile backsplash, and new stainless steel appliances. The hallway bath and the master bath were completely updated, with extensive use of decorative tile. Featured items include a Blue Eyes granite top on an Archer wall mounted vanity, extensive tile use including wainscoting, and a chair rail with Red tail accent tile surrounding the mirror and niches. Flooring from the foyer through the remodeled areas now feature Armstrong Global Exotics Natural Cumaru wood, with carpeting in the family room.

Kitchens By Design, Inc.: Kitchen Remodel • 2700 Spencer Lane • Brookfield

Directions: West on Bluemound Road to Barker Road and north. Go to Bartlett Drive and go west to Spencer Lane and north to home.

The kitchen was redesigned to fit the lifestyle of the new homeowners. Eliminating the kitchen soffits provided for an open and airy space. The combination of frosty white cabinets and black opalescence granite countertops worked well against the warm wood floors. Stainless steel appliances, a custom wood hood, paneled front refrigerator and dishwasher, and classic white tile added an updated look to this gourmet kitchen. The multi level island with detailed columns and wainscot paneling anchor this gathering spot for family and friends. The oak woodwork was painted white and contrasted nicely against the freshly painted walls. Wainscot paneling was added to the dining room and front entry to add formality to this pristine saltbox.

Refined Renovations, LLC: Kitchen and Family Room Remodel and Mudroom Addition • 1005 Circle Drive • Elm Grove

Directions: From Bluemound Road, north on Sunny Slope Road, past Watertown Plank Road one block to home on left.

This 1930’s Tudor had interior charm, however the kitchen and family room, which were disconnected and in an out of date era with a layout that did not fit today’s lifestyle, needed to be remodeled to match the rest of the home. The lack of a mudroom was also problematic. The new space allows the kitchen, family room, and mudroom to compliment one another without sacrificing function or style, all while adding a new facet to the home’s charm.

Renovators Ltd.: Kitchen, Powder Room, and Laundry Room Remodel • 2175 LaFontaine Court • Brookfield

Directions: From North Avenue, go south on Brookfield Road to LeChateau Drive and go east to LaFontaine Court and north to home.

What started as a kitchen remodel for this 1970s home evolved into a first floor makeover. A traditional dark kitchen was replaced with custom made cabinets featuring a custom white painted finish with espresso hand rubbed glaze, quartz countertops, and glass tile backsplash. Recessed ceiling lights, pendant fixtures, and interior cabinet lighting for multiple glass door cabinets are another feature. The remodeled dinette now has views of the patio and gardens. A closet and wall were removed, making the space more aesthetically pleasing spacious. The adjoining laundry room was updated with new cabinetry, an undercounter high efficiency washer and dryer, laminate counters, and space for computer and phone charger. The first floor bath was renovated to include a furniture style vanity, vessel sink, wall mounted faucet, and a custom floor to ceiling mirrored wall. Diagonally laid, simulated hand scraped laminate flooring was installed throughout the kitchen, dining room, bathroom, laundry room, and front foyer.

An added attraction for the 2011 Spring Showcase is an opportunity to win a bathroom makeover from the Kohler Co., which will include a Kohler Cimarron pedestal lavatory and Comfort Height toilet with a Quiet Close Seat, mirrored cabinet, sculpted faucet, toilet tissue holder, towel ring, and towel bar. Patrons that visit at least five of the project locations will be eligible to register to win the prize package.
