Brookfield East traveled to Sussex Hamilton on Dec. 22 and dropped a Greater Metro Conference dual meet, 46-24.
The wrestling matches started at the 160-pound weight class, and the evening started out well for East.
Freshman Michah Childs (170) won an exciting, come-from-behind victory, 5-4, that again shows the future potential of this Spartans wrestling team that has four freshmen wrestling varsity and competing against veteran opponents.
Senior Sam Brunker (182) pinned his opponent with a takedown and pin in 58 seconds, and junior John LeClaire (195) pinned his man in 1 minute, 8 seconds using a strong leg ride and pinning combination.
Senior Andrew Sobcjak (285) received a forfeit and earned six more team points for the Spartans while sophomore Sam Behling (138) went down to the last second to earn a 3-2 victory to round out the scoring for the Spartans.
The rest of the night included some exciting matches and tough losses, including a thriller by freshman Josh Dempsey (126) in an overtime 5-3 loss.
The Spartans, who are taking part in the Merrill tournament Wednesday and Thursday, host West Allis Hale on Jan. 5 in a Greater Metro Conference match.
