Brookfield Tennis Club sets clinic for Sunday

The Brookfield Tennis Club is hosting a Tennis Clinic at Brookfield Central on Sunday from 1-3 p.m.

The focus will be on "Improving Your Mental Toughness on the Court."

Prospective members should call Mike Murray at (262) 385-5088 or mmurray@rwbaird.com to request a membership application. Dues are $25 a year per person and $35 a year per couple.

Lied shines off court for Michigan State tennis

Former Brookfield East tennis player Drew Lied, a 2010 graduate and current Michigan State Spartans player, received highest honors (grade point over 3.75) at the 2012 Spartan Academic Excellence Gala.

Lied plays No. 4 singles and No. 1 doubles for Michigan State.

Former Milwaukee Brewers set baseball camp

The 11th Annual Menomonee Falls Baseball Camp is set for July 16-19 at the Menomonee Falls Little League Complex.

The camp is run by former Milwaukee Brewers Don August and Jim Gantner, and it will from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. for the four days.

Ages 8-12 will be on the lower fields and ages 13 and over will be on the upper fields.

Lancers fifth-graders earn all-tournament honors

The Brookfield Central fifth-grade boys basketball team won the Division 1 Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament in Kimberly and Menasha on April 14 to 15 and four players made the all-tournament team.

Named to the all-tournament team were Jack Cooney, Drew Leszczynski, Gage Malensek and Cole Nau.

Central boys set three basketball camps

The Brookfield Central coaching staff has announced three boys basketball camps for the summer months at Brookfield Central.

Coach Mark Adams, his staff and players will run the camps.

The One-Week Camp is from 12:30 to 4 p.m. June 11 to 15 for players going into grades four through nine in the fall.

The Shooting Camp will be June 18 to 21: Session I is from 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Session II is from 10:30 a.m. to noon for players going into grades four through 12.

The Position Camp is June 25 to 28: Session I is 9 to 10:30 a.m. and Session II is from 10:30 a.m. to noon for players going into grades four through 12.

Spartans to host two skills development clinics

Brookfield East basketball is hosting a fundamental skills development clinic on May 19 at the East Fieldhouse.

The clinic is being conducted by East coach Andy Farley and his staff from 4:15 to 5:45 p.m. The $15 registration fee is payable on the day of the clinic, which is open to all fourth- through eighth-grade boys.

Teams needed for boys summer league

Brookfield East will host a 10-game summer league on Wednesday evenings for fifth- and sixth-grade boys teams.

The league dates are June 13, 20, 27, July 11 and 18. The league is limited to the first eight teams registered per grade level.

Central seventh-graders finish 27th in boys state tourney

The Brookfield Central seventh-grade boys basketball team finished 27th out of 90 teams in the Wisconsin State Invitational Championship Tournament in La Crosse on March 31-April 1.

This tournament, which was organized by The Great Northwest Basketball League, crowned state champions in four divisions. Brookfield Central played in Division 1, finishing 2-4 in six games.

In pool play the Lancers lost to Bay Port (46-35), Madison East (53-25) and Eau Claire Memorial (43-26). In the 25th-30th place bracket they beat Homestead (43-34) and lost to Marshfield (40-27). They then beat Germantown (46-42) in the 27th-place game.

The Central team is coached by Kevin Rohde and assistant Dave Carnell.

Free Tight End Camp set for June 20-21

Jim Place's annual free Milwaukee Tight End Camp is set for June 20-21 at Bradley Tech, 700 S. 4th St.

The camp is scheduled from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. each day, and campers will receive a free T-shirt and snacks. Campers should wear athletic shorts, shirts and football turf shoes.

Place is a former tight end at Ball State University and is currently a tight ends coach. The camp focuses position-specific instructions for playing tight end.

Campers who register before June 8 are guaranteed a T-shirt.

Dundun Freshman Skills Soccer Camp set in July

The Dundun Freshman Skills Soccer Camp is set for July 23-26 for players entering the ninth grade in the fall.

Brookfield East coach Herbie Dundun will run the camp at Brookfield East, where there are five spacious natural grass fields for players to practice and enhance skills.

The camp will run from 5 to 7 p.m. Campers should bring a ball, water, cleats and shin guards. The cost is $90 per session and is open to the first 40 applicants. (Players from other schools may attend.)

The camp's main focus is to help you improve your skill with the ball. Each session will concentrate on different moves with the ball and will progress from individual work to small-sided games, allowing each player to practice the skills within competition.

Offensive and defensive tactics will also be addressed within those small-sided games. Players will be rotated in small groups with experienced coaches to both maximize instruction and encourage creativity.
