Brookfield Central won two Greater Metro Conference games to improve to 6-6 going into this week, defeating Wauwatosa East, 9-6, on May 15 at home and the Chargers, 7-6, on May 17 at Sussex Hamilton.
The Lancers rallied from a 6-3 deficit against the Red Raiders (4-10), scoring six runs in the bottom of the fourth for the victory.
Lauren Schweitzer singled and doubled and drove in two runs, while Angie Chartier singled and doubled and drove in a run and Carley Sobrilsky singled twice and drove in a run as Central banged out 12 hits. Laura Hauser singled, walked twice and scored three runs and Abby Rossman singled twice and scored twice.
In the six-run inning, key hits were Schweitzer's two-run double and RBI singles by Sobrilsky and Hannah Krogman. Hauser got the win, allowing only one earned run.
Against Sussex Hamilton (7-4) two days later, the Lancers scored five runs in the third inning to take a 7-3 lead through four innings. Central then held off the Chargers, who chipped away with single runs in the last three innings but fell short.
Hauser got the win again, pitching seven innings, scattering 14 hits and three walks while fanning four.
Hauser singled and tripled and scored a run, Chartier singled twice and drove in a run and Sobrilsky singled twice and scored a run as Central banged out seven hits.
The Lancers opened and closed the week with non-conference losses at Nicolet, 8-7, on May 14 and, 5-4, at an outstanding Germantown team (17-4) on May 18.
Trailing 8-0, the Lancers scored seven runs in the sixth inning to make a game of it. Sobrilsky singled and homered and drove in four runs and Hauser, Anna Liewen and Maddie Culver each had two hits.
In the big seventh inning, Rossman walked in a run, Hauser singled in a run, Krogman was safe on an error scoring a run and Sobrilsky nailed a grand slam home run to left field.
Against Germantown, the Lancers were trailing 1-0 in the third, but Rossman singled and Sobrilsky drilled a 2-run homer to take the lead. The Warhawks then scored four runs in the bottom of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.
Central battled back with two runs in the fourth. Culver reached on an error and Krogman doubled to left. Hauser drove them both in with a double. However, Culver's single in the sixth was all the Lancers could muster the rest of the way.
Courtney Cain allowed two earned runs in five innings, but she allowed five hits and seven walks. Hauser closed out with a scoreless sixth.
Central was 8-9 overall going into this week.
