Softball: Lancers split two GMC, two tourney games

May 14, 2012

Brookfield Central split Greater Metro Conference games with West Allis Central and Brookfield East and then split two games in the Grafton Tournament on Saturday.

The Lancers opened the week by beating West Allis Central, 20-5, on May 8 at home, scoring 16 runs in the third inning to quickly put the game away.

Central used 12 hits and 10 walks to put together an impressive offense. Laura Hauser had two doubles, a walk, three runs scored and four RBIs and got the win with 4.1 innings of relief, slamming the doors after the Bulldogs had a four-run first inning.

Carly Sobrilsky had a single, triple, walk and two RBIs, while Angie Chartier singled, walked, scored three runs and drove in two. Lauren Schweitzer added two RBIs, while Anna Liewen scored three times, singled and walked twice.

Central lost at Brookfield East, 11-8, on May 10, but not before the Lancers rallied to make a game of it.

The Spartans scored 11 runs in the first inning and were one out from ending the game with the 10-run rule, when Central scored four runs in the fifth inning to cut the lead to 11-5. The Lancers then cut the lead to 11-8 by scoring three more times in the sixth, but winning pitcher Amanda Kalupa had a 1-2-3 seventh inning to end the game.

In the fifth with two outs, Hauser, Chartier and Sobrilsky each singled. Hauser scored on a passed ball, Chartier on an error and Hannah Krogman singled in two runs.

Hauser came on in relief in the second inning and blanked East the rest of the way. Central added three runs in the sixth, two coming on Hauser's two-run single, but that was all the Lancers could muster.

There were eight errors in the game, five by Central. Hauser had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Lancers.

The Lancers then went 1-1 in the Grafton Tournament on Saturday, losing the first game to Kettle Moraine, 9-0, and beating Grafton, 6-4.

In the second game, Central led 6-2 through five innings before the Black Hawks scored two in the sixth in make it close.

Sobrilsky banged out two homers and drove in three runs, while Hauser had a single, double and an RBI, Liewen singled and doubled and Chartier added two singles. Courtney Cain (4 IP, 4 H, 2 ER, 2 BB, 2 K) and Hauser (3 IP, 1 H, 3 K) split the pitching chores.
