Erica Engstrand earned the only first-place finish for Brookfield East on Jan. 18 at the giant slalom at Alpine Valley.
The boys took second behind powerhouse Catholic Memorial. Trinity, Germantown, Menomonee Falls and Muskego also competed. The girls finished fourth, missing third by 0.003 of a second.
Engstrand won with a time of 52.59 seconds. The other five skiers for East were Shelby Jacobs (10th, 59.29), Hailey Mckenna (14th, 62.50), Andi Moyer (16th, 63.42), Claire Procknow (17th, 64.10) and Chloe Olson (21st, 70.76).
Michael Amato led the boys, finishing second (48.85), followed by Brad Wolf (10th, 57.44), Michael Wolf (11th, 58.75), Matt Filliat (14th, 60.98), Greg Spicer (15th, 61.53) and Henry Termuehlen (17th, 61.71).
