The Brookfield East boys and girls teams finished second on the slalom course Jan. 25 at Alpine Valley against Franklin, University Lake School, Brookfield Academy, Kettle Moraine and Lake Country Lutheran.
Erica Engstrand placed first for the girls with a time of 60.31 seconds as the co-op of ULS/BA/LCL scored 271.83 to the Spartans 299.97 to win the team event.
The boys (280.37) finished second to Kettle Moraine (243.35), and Michael Amato placed second with a time of 55.50 seconds. The Lasers' Ian Beal took first (54.48).
Other varsity skiers included Hailey Mckenna (seventh), Claire Procknow (11th), Shelby Jacobs, Chloe Olson, Andi Moyer and Michael Wolf (sixth), Henry Termuehlen (12th), Jack Kemnitz (13th), Brad Wolf and Matt Filliat.
The skiers are building confidence and momentum in the two final races as they try to secure a state championship position. Slalom is a much more technical and difficult course to ski than giant slalom, and the skiers are improving both their style and speed.
