As expected the Brookfield East boys tennis team split two matches at the WIAA Team Tennis Tournament at the Nielsen Center in Madison on Friday and Saturday.
The Spartans whipped Green Bay Preble, 6-1, in the quarterfinals on Friday to open the week and then suffered their worst beating of the year to Marquette, 7-0, on Saturday morning.
Sophomore Felix Corwin of Brookfield East beat senior Mason Mattila of Preble (6-0, 6-0) at Flight 1, while in Flight 2 junior Tim Corwin beat junior Brad Maccoux (6-0, 6-0).
Flight 3 saw East freshman Tyler Kendler whip junior Hoi-An Thai (6-0, 6-0) while senior Michael Amato of East defeated sophomore Will Griswold (6-1, 6-0) in Flight 4.
On the doubles side, East senior Ben Klein/sophomore Ben Stewart beat seniors Jaren Sternard/Andrew McDonald (6-3, 6-3) in Flight 1 and in Flight 3 senior Billy Dietz/junior Michael Wolff defeated seniors AJ Kempke/Cristian Vasiliev (6-3, 6-0).
In Flight 2 Preble junior Kurt Ahonen/sophomore Brennan Dougherty beat East juniors Cole Leonovicz/Jimmy Engelhart (6-1, 6-4).
On Saturday against Marquette in the semifinals, the Spartans were hoping to have better luck this time around after losing 6-1 and 5-2 in the regular season.
It didn't happen as the Hilltoppers won every match.

In doubles, two of the three battles were close.
