Varsity girls play at 6 p.m., boys after at 7:30 p.m.

Jan. 3, 2012 | 0 comments

The annual 'Battle of Brookfield' is set for Friday at Brookfield East and the Lancers should be favored in both. The gym should be packed, hopefully, because the city takes pride when these teams meet in a friendly - but competitive - rivalry.

LAST NINE YEARS

BOYS

Brookfield Central is 17-3 over Brookfield East the last nine years, including two post-season wins. The Lancers had a 12-game winning streak against East snapped last season when the Spartans won a 43-39 decision at Central on Jan. 7. The Lancers then beat East, 44-39, at East on Feb. 11.

GIRLS

The girls' series in the last nine years is much closer, but not lately. Central leads, 11-10, with a 1-2 record in the post-season. The Lady Lancers had won seven in row since losing on Jan. 31, 2008 as the Lady Spartans handed them one of their two Greater Metro Conference losses that season. Last year Central won at home (63-35) and at East (62-47).
