Lady Spartans have tough night against Mukwonago
East's shooting woes, turnovers add up to a blowout non-conference loss
When you shoot 17 percent from the field, commit 28 turnovers and get shutout in the fourth quarter, you know it's going to be a long night.
This is what happened to the Brookfield East girls basketball team and as a result, the Spartans dropped their fourth straight game, losing a 50-14 decision at Mukwonago (5-2) on Dec. 29.
The Spartans are 2-7 overall, 0-3 in the Greater Metro Conference, with their next game against Brookfield Central (1-2, 3-5) at 6 p.m. Jan. 6.
East trailed 16-3 after one period and 29-9 to pretty much set the tone for the night. They didn't know it was going to get worse.
After scoring three, six and five points in the first three quarters, they didn't score a point in the final period.
There was not much going on in the scoring column, as Emily Utic led the way with eight points, while Kirsten Kreh had three, Adriana Gibbs had a basket and Kellie Goodman, a free throw.
"The effort was there," East coach Kelly Lam said. "They never gave up."
