Hockey: Stars host 'Hockey for Hunger'

Jan. 2, 2012 | 0 comments

The Brookfield Stars hockey team will sponsor the third annual Hockey for Hunger night during their home game against Waukesha at The Ponds of Brookfield on Saturday.

While they are opponents on the ice, the Stars and Wings are teaming up off the ice to beat hunger in Waukesha County.

Non-perishable food items and cash donations will be accepted at the door. All proceeds will go to the Food Pantry of Waukesha County.

The varsity game is at 7 p.m. and the junior varsity plays at 9 p.m.

The Stars dropped a 2-0 nonconference decision to Cedarburg on Dec. 28 at the Bradley Center.

Cedarburg scored at 3 minutes, 38 seconds in the third period to break a scoreless tie as Olaf Jurenko had a goal, assisted by Taylor Curtis and Evan Gabel.

The Bulldogs clinched the game with an empty-net goal by Nick Martin at 16:20 of the final period.

JJ Murname had 19 saves for the Stars.

The Bulldogs improved to 7-3 and the Stars fell to 5-7.

The Kettle Moraine Glacier played in the Blaine Tournament in Minnesota from Dec. 26 through 28, but results were not turned in to NOW by the press deadline.
