Wauwatosa East and Sussex Hamilton handed the Brookfield East girls basketball team two losses to open the Greater Metro Conference season, as the Spartans fell to 2-4 overall.
The Red Raiders crushed the Lady Spartans, 48-30, on Friday at Tosa East. The Lady Spartans quickly fell behind, 28-15, at halftime and then watched as the Red Raiders outscored them, 20-15, in the second half.
Kellie Goodman continued her fine season with a team-leading 11 points, including 4-of-5 from the free-throw line. Emily Utic had eight points, nailing 4-of-4 from the charity stripe. East converted 13-of-18 free throws.
Tosa East's Katie Salmon led all scorers with 14 points, including 10 in the first half. Emily Jensen scored all six of her points in the third period as the Red Raiders expanded their lead to 40-23 after three periods.
