The last time the Brookfield Central boys basketball team went to state, in 2007-08, Cory Degner was one of the stars. Degner is still doing his thing for the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse.
Degner played a key role for the Lancers on their way to the state tournament.
Degner, a senior guard for the Eagles, has been their starting point guard the last two seasons. Three times this year he has been their leading scorer.
He was the leading scorer against Concordia University (15 points) in a 63-57 loss at home, in a 78-57 win over St. Norbert's (16), where he made the All-Tournament team in the St. Norbert's Holiday Classic on Dec. 30, and most recently on Jan. 7 (23) in a 75-69 win at UW-Oshkosh.
He is averaging 8.9 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.6 assists, and he is shooting .480 (47-of-98) from the field, .400 (6-of-15) from 3-point range and .717 (43-of-60) from the free-throw line.
