Central kickers lose to Indians, Rockets

The Menomonee Falls Indians (6-2-1) continued their hot start to the Greater Metro Conference schedule with a 2-0 result Aug. 28 in a battle with Brookfield Central (2-2).

A scoreless first half had the Lancers on their heels. The physical play of the Indians allowed Menomonee Falls to dominate possession, but the Lancers' organized back line eliminated any real scoring opportunities. Likewise, Menomonee Falls pressed quickly upon loss of possession and curtailed any real counterattacking from Central.

The second half was a different story; while the visiting Lancers controlled possession and created the chances, key moments at the beginning and the end got the hosts the goals they needed for the victory.

Falls took the lead 23 seconds into the second half when they pressed the Lancers' kickoff and dispossessed Central on its left flank. Matt Dwyer carried the ball inside and caught a break when his shot deflected off the leg of Stephen Lin past Tyler Moore in the Central net. This appeared to be the wake-up call as the visitors turned up the pressure.

For the remainder of the match, Central won the midfield battle, but could not break through for the equalizer. As the chances continued, shots by Erik Oimoen, Vuk Latinovich and Andrew Nemcek each missed by inches.

Inches may have also been a factor as an apparent penalty kick earned by Duncan Favill was placed just outside the penalty box for a free kick. As the Lancers pushed more bodies forward late, Falls clinched the points in the 78th minute with a quick break and strong finish from Jake Brust.

The Lancers then lost a non-conference game at Neenah game, 6-2, on Saturday.

Richie Sebzda scored with an assist by Latinovich in a minute 15 and Nemcek scored on a pass by Duncan Favill in a minute 42.

Adam Pohlman and Taylor Hoffman each scored twice for the Rockets, while David Bacon and Tyler Rosera also added goals.
