The Brookfield Academy boys survived a 34-point third quarter and hung on to defeat Milwaukee North, 76-75, Friday to improve to 4-3 overall.
The Blue Knights held an impressive 39-27 lead at halftime, but then the Blue Devils went on a 34-21 tear in the third quarter and took a 63-60 lead into the final period. But the Blue Knights outscored North, 16-12, in the fourth quarter for the win.
BA rallied and took the lead with 3 minutes to go in the game. With 15 seconds left to play and the Blue Knights winning, 74-73, senior Tyler Frohwirth was fouled and sent to the line to shoot a one and one. His first attempt bounced off the back iron and sophomore Sean Clarey secured the offensive rebound and was fouled. With 12 seconds left, Clarey hit both free throws for a 76-73 lead, and North converted a meaningless layup in the final seconds.
Clarey led the way with a game-high 34 points with seven 3-pointers, while Frohwirth had 15 points and 10 rebounds, Domonique Criss added 13 and Zach Kolasinski tossed in 12. David Hamilton led North with 23 while Tevin Bailey had 19 and Darrell Riley had 17.
Senior Lanre Olaniyan, moved over from wing to point, passed out a team-high 11 assists and just one turnover.
Brookfield Academy is 3-0 in the Midwest Classic Conference. They play at Whitefish Bay Dominican on Saturday. The Knights are also 3-0 in the conference and are considered one of the best teams in the state.
