Boys swim/dive: Barracudas crush Hilltoppers

"Coaches are reluctant to be too effusive, but so far this team has exceeded all of our expectations."

With those words, the Brookfield Barracudas coach William Twitchell summed up his team's season following a 123-60 dual meet victory on Dec. 15 at Brookfield East.

The Barracudas won 11 of 12 events and finished second seven times.

The 200-yard medley relay of Brian Borden, Jeffrey Teng, Tyler Patt and Mitch Douglas (1 minute, 48.44 seconds), the 200 freestyle relay of Joe Bauer, Douglas, Patt and Borden (1:35.85) and the 400 free relay of Douglas, Michael Flatley, Peter Jing and Dean Zheng (3:39.70) all took the gold.

Double individual winners were Erik Wahlgren in the 200 free (1:49.86) and the 100 butterfly (54.43), Flatley in the 200 individual medley (2:10.62) and 100 free (52.55) and Borden in the 50 free (22.85) and the 500 free (5:04.51).

William Saas won the 1-meter diving (253.50 points) and Patt won 100 breaststroke (1:06.50).

Finishing second were the 200 medley relay of Bauer, Daniel Lee, Saas and Zheng (1:53.01) and the 200 free relay of Jing, Flatley, Tommy Wester and Wahlgren (1:38.70).

Individual runner-ups were Patt in the 200 individual medley (2:14.77), Bauer in the 50 free (24.42), Zheng in the 100 fly (58.79), Wester in the 500 free (5:56.47), Teng in the 100 breast (1:09.60) and Mark Horvatin in the 100 back (1:07.67).

The JV also won by a bigger margin, 134-16.
