Elmbrook Swim Club competitors earn state titles

Elmbrook Swim Club members Kayla Dlugolpolski, Kelsey Hojan-Clark and Kevin Van Cleave won individual events at the recent 2010 Wisconsin Short Course State Championship Meets.

Van Cleave won the 11-12 boys 50-yard breaststroke (30.98 seconds) and 100 breaststroke (1:07.86) at the 12-and-younger state meet, held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison natatorium Feb. 26 to 28. His third-place finish in the 200 breaststroke set a new EBSC record.

The following weekend, at the 13-and-older state meet at the Schroeder Aquatic Center in Brown Deer, Dlugopolski won the 15-16 girls 1,000 freestyle (10:04.85) and finished second in the 500 freestyle.

Hojan-Clark claimed state championships in the 200 freestyle (1:49.14), 500 freestyle (4:51.16), 200 backstroke (1:59.55) and 400 individual medley (4:19.15). She is the state record-holder in the 15-16 200 freestyle and 200 backstroke.

EBSC swimmers with top-16 finishes at the 12-and-younger state meet:

10 and younger girls: Natalie Daniel - fourth in the 200 freestyle, sixth in the 200 individual medley, seventh in the 100 individual medley, eighth in the 100 backstroke, ninth in the 100 breaststroke, 10th in the 50 breaststroke, 14th in the 500 freestyle; Leah Westcott - 13th in the 50 breaststroke

10 and younger boys: Sam Kult - sixth in the 100 butterfly and 200 individual medley, eighth in the 500 freestyle, 11th in the 100 individual medley, 14th in the 50 butterfly, 16th in the 200 freestyle; Jonathan Lee - seventh in the 100 breaststroke, ninth in the 50 breaststroke, 15th in the 200 freestyle, 16th in the 500 freestyle

11-12 boys: Alex Larkin - 10th in the 1,000 freestyle, 14th in the 200 backstroke; Daniel Lee - 10th in the 100 breaststroke, 12th in the 200 breaststroke, 14th in the 50 breaststroke; Kevin Van Cleave - sixth in the 200 individual medley, ninth in the 200 backstroke, 10th in the 100 backstroke, 11th in the 50 backstroke

13-14 boys: Christopher Bastin - 14th in the 200 butterfly; Brian Borden - 10th in the 200 backstroke, 11th in the 100 backstroke; Jed Sekaran - fifth in the 100 butterfly, 12th in the 100 breaststroke; Jeffrey Teng - 15th in the 200 breaststroke; Dean Zheng - 14th in the 100 freestyle

15-16 girls: Sara Brzozowski - second in the 1,650 freestyle, sixth in the 500 freestyle, seventh in the 400 individual medley, 10th in the 200 individual medley; Kayla Dlugopolski - eighth in the 200 freestyle, 10th in the 400 individual medley; Hannah Mast - 12th in the 1,650 freestyle; Marin Thompson - third in the 200 butterfly, fifth in the 100 butterfly, ninth in the 400 individual medley

15-16 boys: Christopher Breger - 13th in the 100 butterfly; Tyler Kloehn - 16th in the 200 butterfly; Erik Wahlgren - 11th in the 50 freestyle, 15th in the 100 and 200 butterfly and the 200 freestyle, 16th in the 100 freestyle

17 and older girls: Claire Frederick - seventh in the 1,000 freestyle and the 1,650 freestyle; Kelsey Johnson - 10th in the 100 and 200 backstroke; Shannon Miller - eighth in the 100 freestyle, 15th in the 50 freestyle; Kelly Theis - fourth in the 1,650 freestyle, 11th in the 500 freestyle; Beth Twitchell - 13th in the 400 individual medley, 14th in the 100 breaststroke

17 and older boys: Colton Gilmore - fourth in the 1,650 freestyle, sixth in the 1,000 freestyle, 15th in the 500 freestyle; Jonathan Marks - sixth in the 100 backstroke and 200 individual medley, seventh in the 100 breaststroke, ninth in the 400 individual medley, 10th in the 200 backstroke; Spencer Rose - 11th in the 100 freestyle, 12th in the 100 breaststroke
