March 9, 2010 | 0 comments

Boys basketball

The Blue Knights won their first WIAA regional championship and advanced to the sectionals.

A dominating 77-59 victory over Watertown Luther Prep on Saturday at Oconomowoc gave Brookfield Academy its first regional championship since the merger with the WIAA in 2000. The Blue Knights came out of the gate strong and never looked back, as the closest Luther Prep got was 9 points at the end of the third quarter. Troy Huff led all scorers in with 19 points, followed by three other players scoring 13 in a balanced effort.

"We're not done," coach Dave Von Rueden said. "We definitely still have some work to do."

BA dispatched Wayland Academy, 60-35, March 2 and Ozaukee, 64-48, March 4.

The Blue Knights will travel to West Bend in the sectional semifinal against 23-2 Winnebago Lutheran at 7 p.m. Friday.

If the Blue Knights win, they will play the following night at West Allis Central against the Dominican vs. St. Catherine's winner for a chance to head to Madison.

Girls basketball

The Brookfield Academy Blue Knights were looking for their best conference finish ever when they faced off with rival University School on Friday. In front of a large, senior-night crowd, the girls took care of business with a 49-37 victory over the visitors.

Eimile Pesch led the Blue Knights with 17 points and was supported by Paige Pichler's 14 points. Cristina Zeppos and Angie Davis closed out their senior year regular-season with their usual solid play.

The girls finished with an 11-4 record in the Midwest Classic Conference, good enough for sole possession of third place and their best conference finish ever.

The girls begin regional play today at Random Lake High School.
