Brookfield Academy: March 2

Boys Basketball

The Brookfield Academy Blue Knights won the Midwest Classic North Division Conference Championship with a 63-38 victory over Heritage Christian on Feb. 24.

After a tough 65-49 nonconference loss to St. John's Northwestern Military Academy on Feb. 23, the Blue Knights came out flat against Heritage, trailing 24-22 at the half. With a conference championship at stake, they needed to pick it up. And they did. The second half proved to be a completely different story for the Blue Knights, who quickly opened up a 10-point lead thanks to a "huge and one" basket by senior Jack Trunzo. From that point, BA controlled the game, outscoring Heritage 41-14 in the second half. Senior Troy Huff led BA scorers with 17 points, with fellow senior Marquis Jordan adding 15 more.

The Blue Knights wrapped up the regular season Friday night with a 55-40 victory over University School of Milwaukee, the only team to have defeated BA in conference play. Senior Jake Stanczyk led all scorers with 14 points in a balanced Blue Knight effort.

"St. John's was a tough loss, but we were able to bounce back huge and gain some momentum heading into the tourney," Trunzo said.

Girls Basketball

Thanks to a 36-24 victory over Living Word Lutheran on Feb. 23, the varsity girls were able to clinch third place in the conference. Paige Pichler's 11 points led a balanced scoring attack in the victory.

The girls traveled Thursday to St. Joan Antida, where the fans were treated to a career performance by senior Cristina Zeppos. Making a variety of shots and consistently finding herself in the right place at the right time, Zeppos poured in 28 points to lead the Blue Knights to a 62-44 victory.

Since a 1-2 start in conference play, the girls have gone 9-2, finishing conference play at the 10-4 mark - their best finish yet in the Midwest Classic Conference.

With an overall record of 12-8, the Blue Knights headed into the final week of the regular season with a game at Hope School on Tuesday (after press deadline) and a home game against University School of Milwaukee on Friday. Senior players and their parents will be honored at the Friday night game.
