Boys Basketball: Central ties for fourth in GMC

Feb. 28, 2010 | 0 comments

The Brookfield Central boys basketball team had it second straight non-winning season in the Greater Metro Conference, finishing 7-7, tied for fourth place with Wauwatosa East.

The Lancers were 6-8 last year, the first losing season for veteran coach Mark Adams. But the Lancers did improve two games in the win column overall, improving from 10-12 to 12-10.

Central dropped its final regular-season game at home Feb. 25, losing to GMC Champion Menomonee Falls (14-0, 20-3).

The loss to the powerful Indians snapped a five-game winning streak for the Lancers, which enabled them to finish strong.

Falls jumped out to early leads and coasted to the win, leading 17-10 after the first quarter and 38-24 at halftime. The teams played an almost even third period (22-19), but the Indians led, 60-43, going into the final quarter.

Sophomore sensation J.P. Tokoto led the Indians with 23 points, finishing with 10 field goals. John Cording and Conor Cassidy added 17 and 15 points, each draining three 3-pointers.

Point guard Alex Olson, who has been playing well down the stretch, led Central with 16 points, including a game-high four 3-pointers.

Alex Diciaula, Central's only senior, played his final regular-season game and scored 10 points, including two 3-pointers, and sophomore Seth Mortag added 10. Nevan Lewis added eight and Tom Gubbins seven.
