Barracudas third in Greater Metro Conference meet
Rose takes only first, winning individual medley
Brookfield finished third in the Greater Metro Conference swimming at Waukesha South on Saturday, as senior Spencer Rose won the Barracudas' only event.
Powerful Arrowhead won the nine-team event with 548 points, well ahead of second-place Waukesha South/Waukesha Catholic Memorial (391) and Brookfield (362).
Rose took first in individual medley, winning in 1 minute, 59.74 seconds. He also took fifth in the butterfly (54.44) and was a member of second- and third-place relay teams.
"Spencer had major shoulder surgery after his sophomore season," Brookfield coach Bill Twitchell said. "The doctor had no confidence that the shoulder would stand up to the rigors of swimming, and he told Spencer to maybe consider another sport that was less stressful on the shoulder. Clearly, Spencer would hear none of that.
"He rehabbed the shoulder like a professional athlete. Everything was by the book and on a strict timetable. He came back his junior year, and it was fantastic just to see him swim at all.
"This year Spencer has exceeded all expectations and has become a force not only in our area, but in the state. We have been fortunate to watch Spencer work his magic this year, and I am sure he has a few more tricks up his sleeve."
The 200 free relay of Theo LeClere, Adam Rose, Erik Wahlgren and Spencer Rose took second (1:30.42), and the 400 free relay of LeClere, Colton Gilmore, Wahlgren and Spencer Rose took third (3:18.07).
There were several other impressive performances. William Sass was fourth in the 1-meter diving (334.60), while LeClere finished fourth in the 100 free (49.64) and fifth in the 200 free (1:47.70).
Gilmore was fourth in the 500 free (4:59.37) and sixth in the 200 free (1:51.31), and Wahlgren was fifth in the 50 free (22.99) and sixth in the 100 free (49.85).
The other fifth-place finish came from the 200 free 'B' relay of Alexander Howard, Kenan O'Connor, Eric Knutson and Gilmore (1:36.75).
Arrowhead 101, Barracudas 84 - Despite the loss, Central had seven first-place finishes in the dual meet with the powerful Warhawks as they tuned up for conference.
LeClere finished first in the 200-yard freestyle in 1 minute, 47.49 seconds as well as the 100 free (49.36).
Spencer Rose was the other double winner for the Lancers, taking first in the 200 individual medley (1:59.80) and the 100 butterfly (54.51).
Wahlgren won the 50 freestyle (23.28), and he took second in the 100 free (50.92) and the 200 free relay (1:31.21) of LeClere, Adam Rose, Wahlgren and Spencer Rose.
The Lancers were impressive in the 1-meter diving, sweeping the top three spots behind Sass (202.40), Alexander Behling (187.60) and Danny Yanasak (164).
Gilmore finished second in the 500 free (5:02.02), and the 400 free relay of LeClere, Gilmore, Wahlgren and Spencer Rose also finished runner-up (3:21.98).
