Boys Basketball: East beats Hale

Jan. 25, 2010 | 0 comments

Going into this week, the Brookfield East Spartans had won two of their last three games, including an impressive 61-31 victory over last-place West Allis Hale (0-7, 0-14) on Friday.

The win gave the Spartans a 2-5 record in the Greater Metro Conference, tied for sixth, but only one game out of fourth place. East was 5-9 overall going into the week.

East played Sussex Hamilton on Tuesday, after press deadline.

The Spartans travel to Wauwatosa East on Friday, to battle the Red Raiders, who lost at Brookfield East, 27-26, on Dec. 11. They play at West Allis Central on Tuesday. Both games begin at 7:30 p.m. The Bulldogs won the first meeting, 42-38.

The Spartans' defense was outstanding Friday, holding the Huskies to 10, nine, five and seven points in their last win. East led 21-10 in the first quarter, 34-19 at intermission and 47-24 after three to coast to victory.

Coach Andy Farley got good balance, led by C.J. Gregg (17 points), Kyle Henning (12) and Darius Barnes (11). But more impressive was the fact that seven other Spartans got on the scoreboard.

Henning led the team with four 3-pointers, but East did struggle from the free-throw line, making only ten of 24 (.417 percentage).
