Wrestling: Central wins two titles at Mt. Horeb

Dec. 21, 2009 | 0 comments

The young Brookfield Central wrestling team had two champions while finishing fifth at the eight-team Mount Horeb Invitational on Saturday.

Tyler Veling and Bryce Gilbert were Central's individual champions. Nic Veling finished second.

The Lancers dropped a 58-16 decision Dec. 17 at West Allis Hale, dropping to 0-3 in the Greater Metro Conference. The Huskies had five pins while Central finished with one - Devin Roznik at 215.

"We showed significant improvement from last week's loss to West Allis Hale," Central coach Chris Demos said. "At the Hale meet the team looked flat, made several mistakes and lacked aggression on our feet.

"Needless to say, that was the theme of our team meeting and the focus of practice on Friday. As a team we are not as experienced as most, so we need to reduce the mistakes and keep our opponents on their toes at all times. This was a definite step in the right direction at Mt. Horeb."

Central's JV also wrestled well on Saturday and lost the first-place tie-breaker to Fort Atkinson and ended up placing second overall.

The Lancers get back into GMC action Jan. 7 when they host Hamilton.
