Blue Sox suffer twin defeats

July 28, 2009 | 0 comments

The Brookfield Blue Sox Land O' Lakes baseball team fell to Sussex, 9-3, on Saturday, and were edged, 6-5, by Monches on Sunday. The defeats left the Blue Sox at 4-12 overall in Western Division play.

In the loss to Monches, the Blue Sox rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the score with a three-run fifth, but Monches scored twice in the top of the eighth to clinch the game.

Paul Archambault, Ken Poniewaz and Bill Posteluk had two hits apiece for Brookfield. Steve Markson took the loss in relief of Aaron Boettcher.

Against Sussex (9-6), the Blue Sox trailed only 5-3 going into the eighth, but then surrendered four runs in that frame to put the game out of reach.

Pitcher John Arnold took the loss for Brookfield. Jim Pease had three hits and two runs scored, while Posteluk, Bobby Joost and Steve Huggins all had two hits.
