Two losses drop Bulldogs to third

July 21, 2009 | 0 comments

The Brookfield Bulldogs baseball team dropped two 3-2 decisions over the weekend and fell two games behind the league leaders in the Western Division of the Land O' Lakes.

The Bulldogs (11-4) fell to Oconomowoc (13-2) on Saturday and Menomonee Falls (9-6) on Sunday, and dropped to third place behind Oconomowoc and Lannon (13-2).

Against Oconomowoc, the Bulldogs scored in the ninth to cut the lead to one run when Scott Booth was hit by a pitch and Brandon Reddinger doubled, putting runners on second and third with no outs.

But Mike Jacobs flew out to short left field, and Eric Sobczak drove in Booth with a grounder to shortstop and moved Reddinger to third. But Erik Iverson struck out to end the game.

Rutz had three hits and three steals to lead Brookfield's eight-hit attack, while Mark Erickson and Alex Tomter only allowed one earned run.

On Sunday, the Bulldogs saw Falls rally to tie the game 2-2 in the seventh before the Lakers won in the 10th inning.

Summers, Jacobs and Sobczak singled to load the bases for the Bulldogs in the fifth and then D.J. Cartledge singled in two runs for a 2-0 lead. Falls won in the 10th on a single, a passed ball and a single.

Brookfield will take on the Pewaukee Muskies (8-7) at Kopecky Field at 1 p.m. Sunday.
