Central back in first with win, East loss
Brookfield Central defeated West Allis Hale in eight innings, 8-7, tonight at McCoy Field, taking over first place in the Greater Metro Conference North Division.
The win left Central with a 10-3 record (25-4 overall), while Brookfield East dropped to 10-4 with a 10-7 loss to South Division leader Muskego (10-4) in a morning game.
With two outs and no one on base in the bottom of the eighth inning Thursday night, BC's Pete Ostergaard ripped a triple down the right field line. Matt Upson then smashed a hard grounder that went through the legs of the Hale second basemen allowing Ostergaard to score the winning run.
The Lancers held a 7-2 lead before the Huskies tied the game with a four-run sixth inning and a run in the seventh. Eric Schrader's two-run triple keyed the big sixth inning rally. The Huskies tied the game in the seventh when the Lancers made an error with two outs, allowing Anthony Miller to score from third.
Central had 10 hits, as Billy Naus went 3-for-4 with two runs scored, while Ryan Hinz, Mike Mierow and Ostergaard added two hits each. Leachy and Ostergaard also drove in two runs apiece.
The Huskies stole nine bases, including three by starter Alex Reed, who pitched the entire game and threw 153 pitches and went 2-for-4 with an RBI.
Earlier in the day at Brookfield East, Muskego held off the Spartans, who rallied back from 5-1 and 7-3 deficits, but just couldn't get over the hump.
Matt Talbot continued his hot hitting going 3-for-4 with an RBI, while Zach Stewart went 2-for-4, Adam Knudsen drove in two runs and freshman Brandt Rogers went 1-for-2 with a walk and a two-run double.
Wes Smith homered and singled, scored twice and drove in two runs to lead the Warriors, while Kevin Schoenbach singled twice and scored three runs. Matt Petritis added two hits and two RBIs and Mike Robinson drove in two runs.
East now hosts third-place Menomonee Falls, who they beat 3-1 and 3-2 on Monday and Tuesday, Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. while Central hosts Sussex Hamilton, also at 5:30 p.m.
