Spartans beat Falls again; Talbot's hit keys late rally

July 1, 2009 | 0 comments

Brookfield East rallied for three runs in the sixth inning to beat Menomonee Falls for the second night in a row and remain in first place in the Greater Metro Conference by a half game over Brookfield Central.

Trailing 2-0, the Spartans scored three runs off of Adam Rubatt, keyed by sophomore Matt Talbot's two-run double. Senior Jake Janowski then shut down the Indians in the seventh for the win.

Rubatt and Janowski hooked up in an excellent pitcher's duel, as they allowed only nine hits between them. Rubatt allowed five hits, walked two and fanned four, while Janowski walked one, allowed six hits and fanned three as both tossed complete games.

Derrick Schmidt went 2-for-3 with a run scored and a double to lead Falls, while Zach Stewart added a double for the Spartans in three trips.

East improved to 10-3 in the GMC, just ahead of Central (9-3), while Falls fell to 8-5, 20-5 overall. The Spartans are 15-9 overall.

East plays Muskego today at 11 a.m. in a make-up game.
