Coach Doug Lange's Brookfield Central softball team improved to 16-3 overall and 12-2 in the Greater Metro Conference, good enough for second place behind unbeaten Menomonee Falls (14-0).
The Lancers went 4-0 last week, all GMC games, and closed out the regular season with a 10-9 win at Sussex Hamilton on May 23.
Central led 10-6 through four innings and held off the Chargers, who scored three times in the fifth inning, for the win.
Courtney Cain had a 2-run double in the second, and Laura Hauser ripped a 2-run single in the third. Sussex tied the score at 4-4 in the bottom of the inning before Central took off.
Ashley Rossman had an RBI single and two runs scored on an error; Angie Chartier scored on a passed ball; and Hauser doubled in the fifth run of the inning and scored on two wild pitches for a 10-6 lead.
Sicard fanned 10 and got the win. Hauser also pitched an inning, but the Chargers only managed a single in the last two innings.
Hauser had two singles, a double, two runs scored and three RBIs, while Rossman and Katie Dobrynski each had two hits.
Two for one
The Lancers defeated West Allis Central in a doubleheader, 21-1 and 20-0, and Crystal Sicard, Courtney Cain and Laura Hauser combined to pitch a no-hitter in each game on May 21.
The Lancers scored 10 runs in the first inning of the first game to set the tone for the day, a 21-1 win. Angie Chartier had four RBIs, and Sicard, Ally Smyczek and Kama Jensen had two hits each. Ashley Rossman scored four runs, Rachel Buchholtz scored three times and Chartier, Cain, Gabby Tierney, Kylie Servidas, Gabby Wynsen and Katie Meichar scored twice each.
Sicard pitched one inning and struck out the side, and Cain pitched 2.2 innings and fanned four.
In the game, a 20-0 shutout, Central scored one, nine, seven and three runs from the second through fifth innings. Hauser had three singles and a double, scored four runs and drove in four; Chartier had three doubles, three runs scored and four RBIs; and Cain had three hits and three RBIs.
Cain pitched 2.2 innings (2 walks, 3 K) and Hauser two innings (1 BB, 1 K).
The Lancers scored in the first five innings and blew out the Red Raiders, 14-1, at Wauwatosa East on May 19 to start the week.
Central scored one, five, one, three and four runs to start the game. The Lancers had 12 hits, as four players had two hits each, but two players with one hit each did a lot of damage.
Crystal Sicard had a three-run homer, and Gabby Tierney drove in three runs, including a two-run double.
Ashley Rossman singled twice, scored three runs and drove in two; Ally Smyczek singled, doubled, had two runs scored and an RBI; and Rachel Buchholtz and Laura Hauser each had two hits, a run scored and an RBI.
Courtney Cain earned the win with a five-inning complete game, allowing three hits and four walks while fanning five.
