No. 1 Central to host eight-seed East boys Friday

The boys basketball post-season began Tuesday with the regional quarterfinals for some teams. The girls post-season is set to begin this coming Tuesday.

Here is a look at the lineups for the Brookfield Central and Brookfield East basketball teams.

Boys

Teams — Top-ranked Brookfield Central (22-0) is in WIAA Sectional 4 with the finals scheduled for 4 p.m. March 8 at West Allis Central. Eighth-seeded Brookfield East (5-17) also is in Sectional 4.

First-round matchup: For the third time this season, the Lancers will battle their crosstown rival, the Spartans, a matchup no one really wants. Central won the series by a total of 42 points. The first time around at East it was a 60-48 win, and the Spartans put up a fight. The second game was a 72-42 rout. Game time is 7 p.m. Friday at Central.

Next round: The winner of this game faces the winner of fourth-seeded Milwaukee South (15-7)/fifth-seeded Milwaukee Vincent (11-11) on Saturday. Vincent beat South, 54-46, in their only meeting.

Girls

The Brookfield Central girls (17-3) earned the top seed in Sectional 4 with the finals scheduled for March 15. Brookfield East (9-12) earned the fifth seed and also is in Sectional 4.

First-round matchup: The Lancers will meet the winner of the March 4 quarterfinal game between two City Conference teams as Milwaukee South (7-14) battles Milwaukee Bay View (2-17) on March 7. The Spartans will host Milwaukee Riverside (11-8) on March 7.

Next round: The winner of the first-round Central/South/Bay View games will meet the winner from East/Riverside on March 8.
