Engelhart, Simon spark two Brookfield East victories

Both juniors combine for 65 points last week

Brookfield East's boys basketball team improved to 2-1 with a 2-0 week, defeating Badger on Dec. 3 and Green Bay East on Friday, both at home, as Jimmy Engelhart scored 36 points and Christian Simon scored 29 to lead the offense.

The Spartans beat Badger, 51-42, in a nonconference game on Dec. 3 at home to even their record at 1-1.

East got off to a 13-5 first period as Engelhart scored eight points, including two three-pointers and led 19-12 at intermission.

Then in the third quarter, Dominic Carter and Engelhart each scored six points to take a 35-24 lead into the final period. Badger's Lincoln Wiesman scored nine points for the Badgers in the third.

Christian Simon had 11 points, hitting nine for nine from the free-throw line, in the final period.

The Spartans were busy at the free-throw line, hitting 14 of 19 in the final quarter, with Simon having the only basket. East finished 18 for 23 from the line overall.

Engelhart scored 20 points, Simon had 13 and Carter added nine to lead the scoring. Wieseman scored 20 to lead all scorers, as Badger's record dropped to 3-2.

East then hosted Green Bay East on Friday and handed the Red Devils a 57-51 defeat, their fourth loss in a row to open the season.

Once again the Spartans jumped off to a quick lead, outscoring Green Bay East, 15-7, in the first quarter and extended it to 29-18 at intermission.

The Red Devils played better in the second half, cutting the lead to 44-38 going into the final period. But each team exchanged baskets (13-13) and East finished with a second straight win over after opening with a loss.

Engelhart and Simon each had 16 points to lead all scorers and Carter added nine points.

The Spartans keep getting to the free-throw line in the first three games and and finished 18 for 25 on Friday.

The Spartans traveled to Oak Creek on Tuesday and play at West Allis Central (2-1) on Friday and host Brookfield Central (2-0) on Tuesday, both games at 7:30 p.m. are their first Greater Metro Conference battles.
