Brookfield East won their own invitational on Saturday, improving their overall record to 28-9, beating Wauwatosa East in a Greater Metro Conference match to start the week.
The Spartans swept Pool A, beating Oak Creek (25-7, 25-18), Whitefish Bay (25-15, 25-22) and Milwaukee Lutheran (25-16, 25-12).
In the Gold semifinals, the Spartans beat Waukesha West (25-16, 25-20) and Greendale beat Oak Creek (25-17, 25-21).
But East then continued to roll in the Gold finals, beating Greendale (25-17, 28-26). Whitefish Bay beat Milwaukee Lutheran (25-18, 25-17) in the Silver Championship.
Taylor Wilkerson (37), Petra Bryda (27) and Louise Kiekhofer (22) were the Spartans kill leaders, while Jessa Hansen (59) and Petra Bryda (41) led in assists.
Erika Hansen (49) and Haley Massa (34) were the dig leaders and Wilkerson (five) and Jessa Hansen (five) topped the team in aces.
"I could tell from the first match of the day that our girls were going to have a great tournament and be tough to beat," coach Chris Polowy said. "This is exactly what I've been waiting for; seeing the fire and confidence in their eyes. Everything was clicking as our girls were able to minimize errors right out of the gate. We're a different team when this happens."
Polowy saw many keys to the victory.
"Our serve receive caused us some problems at times, but our offensive decision-making allowed us to build sustainable leads in each of our matches," he said. "Blocking and defense were also key. Our blockers were consistently in position to allow our backcourt good looks at the opponents attack."
He also had praise for several players, beginning with Bryda and Wilkerson.
"Bryda had probably her best tournament of the year. Not only was she consistently putting our attackers in great situations, she was also one of our most efficient attackers," Polowy said.
"Wilkerson also played a great tournament; both offensively and defensively. She led our team in kills and digs."
He also praised Erika Hansen, who led their serve receive, and Massa, who had 19 kills and 34 digs.
The Spartans are 5-1 in the Greater Metro Conference going into a big match with Divine Savior Holy Angels on Oct. 15.
They traveled to Wauwatosa East on Oct. 8 and swept the improved Red Raiders (25-14, 25-23, 25-15). Stats weren't available.
The Spartans host the GMC Tournament at 9 a.m. Oct. 19.
