Brookfield Central, East girls tennis finish in top three at GMC tourney
DSHA wins, but Lancers have two champions
Brookfield Central and Brookfield East finished second and third, respectively, as Divine Savior Holy Angels walked away with the Greater Metro Conference Tournament girls tennis title on Oct. 2-3 in Brookfield and Elm Grove.
DSHA scored 51 points, followed by Central (44) and East (37). Sussex Hamilton (27), Wauwatosa East (20), Menomonee Falls (15) and West Allis Combined (nine) rounded out the scoring.
Central nets two champs
The Lancers had two champions, three runner-ups, and two third-place finishes.
Hannah Sekaran won the No. 1 singles title, beating Brookfield East's Emma Corwin (6-3, 6-0). She had a bye and beat Sussex Hamilton (6-2, 6-0) to get to the finals.
Third doubles Annie Malone/Debra Liu beat Menomonee Falls, Brookfield East and DSHA (6-2, 7-5) to finish first.
No. 3 singles Kim Smith beat Menomonee Falls (6-0, 6-1) and Brookfield East (6-2, 7-5) before losing to Rachel Brielmaier of DSHA (6-0, 6-3) in the finals to finish second.
No. 4 singles Saloni Rao whipped Menomonee Falls (6-0, 6-0), nipped Brookfield East (7-6 (4), 6-3) and lost to DSHA (6-4, 6-4) in the title game to also take second.
The final runner-up was the top doubles team of Ali Bublitz/Annie Porritz, which beat West Allis (6-1, 6-1) and Brookfield East (6-2, 6-1) before losing to DSHA (6-2, 6-3).
No. 2 singles Nikita Sood finished third, beating Sussex Hamilton (6-2, 6-1), losing to Brookfield East and beating Wauwatosa East (6-1, 6-0) in the third-place match.
Second doubles Tori Rieves/Libby Protz beat Falls (6-2, 6-2), lost to Brookfield East (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and then beat Sussex Hamilton (5-7, 6-2, 6-1) in the third-place match.
Spartans grab second places
The Spartans had three runner-ups, three third-place finishes and a fourth.
Corwin beat Falls (6-0, 6-0) and DSHA (6-3, 6-0) before losing the title to Sekaran (6-0, 6-3) to finish second.
Second singles Sadie Spahn beat West Allis (6-0, 6-0), beat Brookfield Central and lost a thriller to DSHA's Keara Tuttle (6-4, 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5) to finish second.
No. 2 doubles Bella Auger/Hannah Lein beat West Allis (6-0), beat Brookfield Central (5-7, 6-3, 6-3) and then finished second with a loss to DSHA (6-0, 6-2).
The three third-place performers were:
Third singles Ali Brefka, who beat West Allis (6-1, 6-0), lost to Brookfield Central (6-2, 7-5) and beat Tosa East (3-6, 7-5, 6-1).
No. 1 doubles Carly Wolff/Meghan Malloy, who beat Tosa East (6-2, 6-0), lost to Brookfield Central (6-2, 6-1) and beat Sussex Hamilton (6-3, 6-0).
Third doubles Maddy Staff/Kalina Zhong, who beat West Allis (6-1, 6-1), lost Brookfield Central and beat Sussex Hamilton (6-1, 6-2) was the final third-place finisher.
No. 4 singles Rachel Melin took fourth, beating West Allis (6-0, 6-0), losing to Brookfield Central (7-6 (4), 6-3) and losing to Sussex Hamilton in the third-place match (7-5, 6-4).
