Brookfield Central's Flatley continues to shine in cross country
Runner again blows course record at South Milwaukee Invitational
Brookfield Central had all five girls finish in the top 17 and ran away with the 33rd Annual South Milwaukee Invitational.
Central won the 14-team cross country event with 52 points, well ahead of second-place Wisconsin Lutheran (79).
"Truly, this was an exciting meet. The team finished the day with a double victory in winning both the varsity and JV races," coach Lorie Lewis said.
"The varsity team took a huge step forward from where they were last week. Lucy Kwiatkowski and Kasey Ledvorowski really picked up the pace and their placing from last week. This improvement really impacted the overall competitive performance of the team. Both runners raced very tight with the rest of the team, which made a tremendous difference in the outcome of the score. All the varsity runners raced very hard. I was proud of their efforts and willingness to take some risks."
Senior Elizabeth Flatley continued her amazing run, winning in 14 minutes even, a course record for the second straight week.
"Elizabeth continues to race some of her best high school cross country times," Lewis said. "For the second week she broke the course record. This time she shattered it by 15 seconds.
"Obviously breaking a course record is no small feat but doing it by 15 seconds is quite stunning. Elizabeth definitely makes each race fun to watch. We are fortunate to have a runner of her caliber on our team."
Senior Paulina Agnello finished eighth (15:39), sophomore Lucy Kwiatkowski was 11th (15:43), Danielle Kulpins was 15th (15:46) and Kasey Ledvorowski finished 17th (15:50).
Junior Megan Hlava was 16:02 and Kristin Hlava took 37th (16:43).
"The JV team also had a terrific day of competition," Lewis said. "Emma Kumer and Oliver Zwebber finished in first and second leading the team to a solid victory."
