Raymonds' goals spark win for Brookfield East's boy soccer team over Brookfield Central
Spartans earn 3-0 decision against crosstown rival
Brookfield East's Peter Raymonds scored two goals as the Spartans beat crosstown rival Brookfield Central, 3-0, on Sept. 4 at East.
East is 8-1 overall, 2-0 in the Greater Metro Conference, while the Lancers sit at 1-1 in the GMC and 1-3 overall. The Spartans beat Central for the fourth time since 2010.
Raymonds, a junior, got the game's first goal at the 17 minute, 38 second mark. He took a pass from junior Winston Markusse and with his back to the goal, flicked the ball into the net.
Junior keeper Drew Johnson had three saves in the first half and junior Michael Fuchs had a key clear.
In the second half East took control of the game, but it took almost 30 minutes.
At 68:36, junior Mick Kenmitz scored on a direct kick after a foul from 23 yards away. Less than 10 minutes later (77:13), Raymonds scored from about 26 yards off an assist from senior David Loffredo by drilling the ball from outside the penalty area into the left side of the net.
Johnson had four saves in the second half, finishing with seven. Central keeper senior Tyler Moore saved a penalty kick and had several other saves to keep the game closer.
"We are sister schools and we respect one another," coach Herbie Dundun said and then praised Moore. "I am happy with the outcome. The Central keeper made some beautiful saves."
When asked about the shift in tempo in the second half, Dundun said "The boys were excited and needed to calm down, stop rushing and wasting opportunities. In the second half, they did that and controlled the ball."
East played West Allis Hale on Tuesday and play at 11 a.m. Saturday at Kettle Moraine.
Central, which met Wauwatosa East in a GMC match on Tuesday, travels to Whitman Field on Saturday to face Tosa West in a 7 p.m. non-conference match.
