Coming off a trip to the state tournament, Brookfield East boys soccer coach Herbie Dundun has 10 seniors and 11 juniors on this season's team, and the Spartans hope to make another run.
The Spartans were 15-8, losing to eventual champion Marquette, 3-1, in the state semifinals. They were 5-3 in third place in the Greater Metro Conference behind the Hilltoppers (8-0) and Menomonee Falls (5-1-1).
This year's captains are senior midfielders Michael Lesar, Ryan Dundun and David Loffredo.
The other seniors are defenders Tommy Baxa, Mahmoud Alchamaa and Evan Hauer; midfielders Aidan Haupt, Ryan Bouchard and Bryce Ries; and forward James Knowles.
Juniors are goalkeeper Drew Johnson; midfielders Jacob Bartosiak, Mick Kemnitz, Henry Raymonds, Winston Markusse, Magd Bilal and Austin Toy; defenders Tommy Schwarz and Michael Fuchs; and forwards Sam Kreul and Peter Raymonds.
The Spartans rolled to a 4-0 win Aug. 20 at Homestead in their opener on the road.
Michael Lesar scored 24 minutes, 45 seconds into the match with an assist from Henry Raymonds.
Next, off a corner kick by senior David Loffredo a header goal was scored by junior forward Peter Raymonds at 38:42.
Leading the Highlanders, 2-0, at intermission, the Spartans came out and scored twice in the second half.
At 47:58 East scored on an assist from midfielder David Loffredo on a through ball past the last line of defense into the 18-yard area, where junior defender Michael Fuchs scored.
The final score of the evening came at 74:57 when senior midfielder Aidan Haupt passed the ball to Henry Raymonds at mid-field, who ran down the sideline to the goal with two Homestead defenders pulling on him, and shot the ball into the right side of the net.
The Brookfield defensive crew of senior center defender Tommy Baxa and junior outside defenders Sam Kreul and Fuchs shut down the Homestead offense, allowing only one shot on goal, which junior keeper Drew Johnson easily handled.
East had a 10-1 shots on goal advantage.
The Spartans blanked Kimberly on Saturday, 6-0, on the road.
Henry Raymonds scored an unassisted goal at the 22:15 mark and then Mick Kemnitz scored on a free kick at 23:54.
Peter Raymonds scored at 33:14 with an assist by Henry Raymonds, and then at 38:30 Ryan Bouchard scored an unassisted goal to close out the half.
In the second half, Aidan Haupt scored off a pass from Mo Alchamaa at 69:11. Then Bryce Ries scored at 73:55 off an assist from Ryan Bouchard.
Johnson had three saves.
